September - 2016
I know we often listen to music as background noise to whatever else we got going on but take some time this month to turn up some loud music and just stare at a wall or dance. You'll thank me later.
I'd like to think each month's list is getting better. If you don't agree, maybe you should try a more positive attitude, ok?
I want to draw special attention to not just the music this month, but the videos that accompany some of these tracks. Starting with the Wes Anderson-esque music video for Júníus Meyvant. It's damn strange. I kinda like it but I don't think I get it. Mick Jenkins, GTA/Vince Staples, & Doyle Bramhall also have tremendous videos. I find this makes the listening experience more engaging. Turns out you really don't have to stare at a wall because there's something good to watch too. This has made me think about the possibility of a music video renaissance. There's an abundance of underutilized talent in the film industry and distribution channels are more accessible than ever to help share the content. It's something that, if capitalized on, could actually bolster younger paid video streaming platforms like YouTube Red. Something to watch anyway.
Anderson. Paak makes another appearance. Couldn't help it. He's another artist on fire and I'm digging the collaboration with Knxlwledge.
The list is rounded out by a single from a new album of duets from the great John Prine. I had originally planned to wait until the album came out so I could choose from the whole set but when I saw a single featured Susan Tedeschi, one of my heroes, I knew I didn't need to wait.
Hope you like it. Love y'all and thanks for listening.
Enjoy 45 minutes of good music.
